The Mess Hall
The Mess Hall is an ideal place for games, activities and dances, as well as the central location for meals and assemblies. The building includes a large dining hall which can be converted to support almost any idea. Also, a full service kitchen is adjacent to the dining hall. The kitchen has 2 walk-in coolers, 2 freezers, an icemaker, refrigerator and bathroom and stove/oven.
The Main Camp area consists of the Mess Hall, 3 cabin areas (8, 8 & 9 cabins respectively) and a central shower-house. Most cabins will sleep 8 people except for the porch cabins in each area (2, 2 & 1) which sleep 6 and 2 newly constructed cabins which sleep 16. All of the cabins have heaters and ceiling fans. The Mess Hall is climate controlled and is used as a meeting area and dining facility, as well as a gathering place for all campers and staff.
Lake York is a 66 acre public lake with swimming, diving and boating available upon request. Waterfront activities require a lifeguard that is certified by a nationally recognized organization. The lifeguard must be positioned out of the water with a rescue . Any person using personal or Camp Cherokee’s watercraft must use rated PFD’s and must have a lifeguard present. The Lake area is open mid May through late September.
